It depends on which hemisphere you live in...

If you live in the northern hemisphere of the world the water will flow clockwise.

If you live in the Southern Hemisphere it goes counterclockwise.

I'm not exactly sure about why... But I do know it has to do with the earths gravitational pull and the fact that the earth is spinning on an axis.

Does the water in a toilet is flushed spin one way in the northern hemisphere and spin the opposite direction in the southern hemisphere?

No, the water in a toilet does not spin one way in the northern hemisphere and spin the opposite direction in the southern hemisphere. The spin of the water in a toilet is determined by the shape of the toilet bowl and the flush system, not by the direction of the Earth's rotation. In a toilet, the water is flushed by a flushing mechanism. This flushing mechanism is usually activated by pushing a lever or pushing a button, and it causes water to be released from the tank into the bowl. The shape of the toilet bowl, as well as the type of flushing mechanism, determines how the water will move once it enters the bowl. When the toilet is flushed, the water quickly fills the bowl and then begins to swirl around. The force of the swirling water will cause it to push against the sides of the bowl and create a whirlpool effect. As the water circles around the bowl, the shape of the bowl determines the direction in which the water will spin. The water will usually spin in a clockwise direction in the northern hemisphere and in a counterclockwise direction in the southern hemisphere. The spin of the water in a toilet is determined by the shape of the toilet bowl and the type of flushing mechanism, not by the direction of the Earth's rotation. The shape of the bowl and the type of flush system will determine the direction in which the water will spin, regardless of which hemisphere the toilet is located in.

Does toilet tank water suppose to drain all the way down?

No, it should go about 1/2 to 3/4 of the way down to the bottom of the bowl.

What are some ways to get rid of a toilet clog?

The easiest way to get rid of a toilet clog is to use a plunger. One can also pour some dish detergent in the toilet bowl, then add boiling water. Be sure to remove some water from the bowl before adding liquid so there is no overflow. If these solutions don't work, it may be necessary to call a plumber.

Why does Air come from the siphon when i flush the toilet?

Because the passageways in the toilet that carry the water from the tank to the bowl are, umm, 'full of air' (for lack of a better term). The water rushes from the tank into the bowl to flush, but all the air is in the way, so you see some come out of the siphon. That's as simple as I can make it.

How do you increase suction in older toilet?

Toilets do not function on suction, they flush by using gravity to empty the water from the tank into the bowl, thereby causing the S-trap built into the toilet bowl to siphon. The only way to improve the flush is to cause it to flush with more water (which sometimes helps, sometimes doesn't), or buy a siphon-jet or other power assisted toilet. An older toilet may be to plugged up with mineral deposits to improve the flush much, the amount of deposit depends on what's in your water, how often you clean the toilet, and other factors beyond your control.

Is there a way to get scratches out of the inside bowl of a toilet?

yes, you can have your toilet refinished. Another option is to buy some porcoline patch and do it yourself. Just shut off your angle valve and drain as much water as you can out of the bowl by holding down the trip lever. The water should go down enough for you to repair the scratches and let it dry before turning the water back on. Refinishing the bowl is expensive and unecessary. A little "Soft Scrub" and alot of elbow grease will usually do it.

What is the best way to sanitize a toilet bowl brush?

Which way does the water spin when you flush the toilet?

AnswerUnlilke common belief, what hemisphere you live in has nothing to do with the way the toilet flushes. It spins according to how your toilet is manufactured.

Will it hurt the septic system to use cottage toilet in winter with water off and drained lines filled with antifreeze could you flush with water from lake and refill antifreeze?

Just use a bucket to pour water directly into the bowl and then replace the anti freeze. That way it is only that bowl and not the tank that needs to be dealt with.

What would cause a mold smell from the toilet bowl if there is no visible mold and bleach in the bowl stopped the smell for one month but now it is back?

When you flush a toilet you are simply releasing the stored energy of the water held in the tank above it. Gravity does the work as the water from the tank fills the bowl, forcing it to drain. The water from the tank is dispensed around the inside of the upper rim of the toilet bowl. If that is the source of mold and odor, treating the bowl is not enough. Turn off the water supply valve behind the toilet and flush. The water level in the toilet will then be low enough for you to use an anti-mold product, such as bleach, in a spray bottle to treat the underside of the upper bowl lip where the water comes out. Be careful and use recommended precautions to protect yourself from these chemicals. After giving the treatment time to work, turn the water supply valve back on to fill the tank. You may then want to put some of the chlorine product in the water tank as well and flush to distribute the chlorine treated water through the channels leading to the bowl rim. After that, avoid using the toilet for a while to give the chlorine time to work. However, you may have another problem which was temporarily masked by putting chlorine in the bowl. You may want to investigate whether or not you have a leak where the toilet is attached to the floor. The toilet is sealed to a "closet flange" under the floor with a wax ring, or "donut" (yum yum!). If a leak is occurring at the floor as a result of the wax ring failing, you may never see the water as it is going down in search of the center of the earth. Along its way it will cause rotting floors and mold in the spaces below.

If the seal is broken on toilet can this cause water to back up into tub when toilet is flushed?

NO way

Why does the water level in a toilet stay the same after urination?

The toilet did not add water yet. By the way, If you filled a bucket with water, The water level would go up.
