whitney's cotton gin made slavery less popular for taking out the seeds out of the cotton but it did not reduce the need of slave to grow and pick cotton. as the cotton gin increased the cotton industry , the more slaves are needed.

It worked well. It basically consisted of a series of rollers with teeth that pull the seed out of the cotton. I think it was hand cranked.
