There are many publications of the writings of Joseph Smith, but I think, as a prophet of God, he would have similar desires and dreams. We know that God's whole work and glory is to 'bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man,' so I think Joseph's would be similar if not exactly the same. He was also a man so he would have had natural desires as well, none of us are perfect.

It is reported that Joseph Smith had three symbolic dreams shortly before his death. In one, he was riding in a carriage, accompanied by his guardian angel. Smith also had two dreams involving steamboats. Since these were recounted through Mormon channels, the symbolism may have come about in the imagination of the retellers, more so than in Smith's own imagination.

As for his desires, the Mormon Church says Joseph Smith had an intense desire to know God and to do His will. His well-known polygamy may provide a secular dimension to this.
