1961 Yankees' regulars: 1b-Bill Skowron, 2b-Bobby Richardson, SS-Tony Kubek, 3b-Clete Boyer, LF-Yogi Berra (yep played 87 games as the LF and only15 as a catcher), CF-Mickey Mantle, RF-Roger Maris (the year he broke Babe Ruth's record by hitting 61 home runs), C-Elston Howard. No other Yankees' player played in more than 72 games. Hector Lopez did that primarily as Berra's replacement in LF.

Maris, of course, led the league (and the Majors) in home runs with 61 and RBIs with142, while Mantle led in Slugging Average at .687, walks with 126, while hitting 54 homers of his own. The Yankees won the World Series by beating the Cincinnati Reds four games to one. Maris was the AL's Most Valuable Player, while Whitey Ford, who won 25 games and lost only 4, won the Cy Young Award for the Major League (there was only one Cy Young Award winner at that time.
