A great deal of the problems that the Army of Tennessee was that under General Bragg, there were tactical successes. With that said, Bragg's tendency to overestimate the enemy inevitably led him to the conclusion to retreat from the field. This meant that a potentially defeated Union army, who remained on the field of battle claimed the victory. Of great importance were the attempts of Bragg's subordinates to seek his removal. After the battles of Perryville and Murfreesboro many o his generals wrote letters to President Davis regarding tis issue. Some of Bragg's generals either openly told or wrote to Bragg that his command was no longer desirable. This included generals Hardee, Cheatham, Withers and Cleburne.
