∙ 15y agoThe parallel port can be used for many different devices. It is most commonly used for printers, giving the parallel port the nickname "The printer port". It is also commonly used for Iomega Zip and Jazz drives.
In modern computing, however, the parallel port is rarely used. Because of that, computer enthusiasts will sometimes use the parallel port for case modification hacks, common hacks involving LEDs.
The parallel port was phased out with the introduction of USB, a bus type network that allowed for faster speeds, PnP, and up to 127 devices per controller.
