Salt water pools have their own chlorinators built into the system. However if this is broken down or under performing you can augment it with any sort of pool chlorine.

No you will not have a salt water pool. yes you will have salt water but the actual electronic plates found in a genrator converts the salt in the water to chlorine to sanitize the pool water. A: You have to have the mechanical device to produce the chlorine in a salt pool. THE SALT A MEANS TO PRODUCE CHLORINE FOR YOUR POOL!

I don't believe salt water pools are harmful for dogs. My dogs swim in my swimming pool about everyday during They have had no health problems or injury due to swimming in the salt water pool. I would think a salt water pool would be safer for a dog to swim in than a normal chlorine type pool.

Hypochlorous acid is the active sanitizer; this is what kills algae and other harmful stuff in the water. Humans have a salt taste threshold of around 3,500 ppm. Most chlorine generators require a salt content of 2500 - 6000 ppm in the pool. The main difference is that many people, given long exposure to the chemical type chlorinated water, experience red, itchy skin, red, burning eyes, and even discoloration of their hair. Swimming in a mild saline solution is much like taking a shower in soft water. Swimming in a standard chlorinated pool leaves a feeling that the skin dries quicker upon exiting the pool. You may also feel or see a whitish residual chlorine flaking on the skin. In a salt-water pool (one with a chlorine generator) the water feels smooth and your skin feels smooth. The real downside to a salt water system is that it does change the way you do maintain water chemistry.
