When the Britishers got very tyrant and ruthless in looting the country and doing unjust actions there arose a reaction amongst the people. Even the religious and spiritual persons like Maharishi Dayanand had to come out with a call for mutiny and raised the slogan of Swarajya - total freedom of India. The war with Rani of Jhansi, Tanta Topia Tipo Sultan in the South furthered the movement for freedom of India. The Britishers opted to divide the countrymen into Muslims and Hindus and tried to create the division by introducing Ammunition and cartridges containing beef to Hindu soldiers and with ham to Muslim soldiers. This act triggered the revolt in the army and consequent in the people of India
