What tools did the Mormons have in their wagons while traveling West?

It probably depends on the family and on when they were travelling. The first pioneers carried everything with them, including what tools they would need to establish farms and homes when they reached Salt Lake City. Later pioneers did not need to carry all of these things as the city was already quite well established and they could probably obtain tools there.

You would definitely want a shovel, an axe, cooking tools, hunting tools, a hammer, a knife, and what tools you would need to fix a wagon and animal harnesses. If your work was something that required tools, such as carpentry, metal working, or saddle making, you would also want those to establish your business once you arrived. You would also want basic supplies to clean and mend clothing like a washing board, irons, and needles.
