Osteocytes are found in a special type of connective tissue called bone. It has a hard, calcified matrix [Ca3(PO4)2.(OH)2] with collagen fibers. Bone functions in protection, support, movement, as calcium store and hematopoiesis (blood cell production). It is also highly vascular and will heal rapidly.
