It depends on what school and what level you are attending. Most will give you a list of the necessities at the beginning and then provide you with them; you then pay the school back. Others make the list available before term starts and then let you go treasure-hunting at the shops. If possible, find one of these lists. Common items will include: * Stationery: pens, pencils, a ruler, eraser, compass, colouring pencils, gluestick, small scissors, marker pens, etc. * Art/Graphics supplies: drawing pads, better colouring pencils, better rulers, squares (which look like triangles), pencil shade kit (containing various hardnesses/shades of pencil). * Notebooks: Lined, pages, quad divided, unruled, even isometric. Large, small, medium, pocket-sized. They come in all sizes and types, so find out what is recommended for the class in question. * Textbooks: usually provided by the school, but sometimes personal books are needed. These are almost always notified of, or provided in class with expectation of later payment. * Workbooks: a similar situation to the textbooks, these are often by necessity a personal item. * Laboratory equipment: some schools make their students obtain private lab coats and safety glasses. * Uniforms: unfortunately for students, many schools have a uniform code. Get your parents to help you check you have enough of every item (shirts, shorts or pants, shoes, the uniform jersey/pullover/jacket/blazer, pairs of socks - at least three of everything but the jackets) * Other classes, particularly in high/secondary school, may need other things. For example, art Photography often requires a decent personal camera; sculpture could need a set of tools; drama may at some point make you obtain items of clothing for costume or objects for props.
