Protestant answer:The main difference between Catholics and other Christian denominations is in how they conduct worship and in what Bible doctrines they hold to.

A Catholic is someone who believes in Jesus Christ, Virgin Mary and all Catholic Saints. They have one earthly leader who is the Pope. Catholic's belief lies in the Apostle's Creed where it emphasises on "Communion of Saints."

whereas,

A Christian is someone who believes in Jesus Christ.

A Roman Catholic, Anglican, Baptist are all Christians. You can say that Christianity is the main category and there are a lot of sub-categories like Roman Catholics, Anglicans, Lutherans, Baptist and various other denominations.

These differences essentially occurred with the Reformation.

Catholics are considered Christians. Many people today use the word Christian to refer to those people who believe in Jesus Christ. Baptists, Protestants and Catholics all fall in this generalized category. The Christian Church is made up of members of local churches. This is called The Body of Christ. Christ promised to be with it until the end of time.

The main difference is in how they conduct worship and in what Bible doctrines they hold to.

Each group, of course, believes that they are the true church. Only the Bible can settle that argument.

The Catholics believe that they are the mother church and were started when Peter was given the keys to the kingdom and made the first Pope.

The Protestants (So called because they protested the Catholic Church) believe they are the true church because they have come out of the apostasy of the Catholic religion and have remained true to Christ's teachings.

Baptists, though only officially gaining this name in the 1400s, can trace their lineage to the first century church. The early church groups were known as the Donatists, Paulitians, and Waldensians (just to name a few) Baptists have always followed the Bible's teachings without apology and have kept true to the faith from the beginning

Catholic viewpoint: This is such a highly charged topic, people feel very strongly about the different views. Our Blessed Lord came on earth teaching, preaching, and healing the sick. He then died on Calvary for our salvation. After His resurrection, He commissioned the apostles to go out teaching, and baptising all nations, and He promised that He would be with them until the end of time. Our Blessed Lord established a visible Church on earth with His representative, the Pope. All of this was not only spelled out but it was all prefigured in the Old Testament in many different ways. He promised to be with His Church until the end of time, to preserve it from all error and that it "might be one". The Church subsequently wrote the New Testament Scriptures as part of her evangelization, but the Church was established by Christ, and guaranteed by Christ long before a single word of the New Testament was written. The only way anyone can be sure he is reading the Word of God as contained in the New Testament is to listen to His Church, to believe in it: for he who rejects His Church rejects Him, as He said.

Catholics are Christians. Catholics believe in saints and the Eucharist more strongly than other Christians.

Catholics are Christian. Catholicism is one of many Christian denominations. Others include Anglican, Eastern Orthodox, Presbyterian, Methodist, Baptist - as well as many others. So, the differences between Catholicism and another Christian group depends a lot on what exactly the other group is. The differences between Catholics and Eastern Orthodox will be quite different than say, a list of differences between Catholics and Baptists.

Answer 1 Christianity and Catholicism are completely different. There are many differences. Here are the base difference between the two. # In Christianity The Bible is the sole authority. In Catholicism Bible and tradition together forms the authority and where they contradict tradition is given more importance. # In Christianity we are saved by faith through grace. In Catholicism we need works also. # In Christianity after death there is only Heaven or Hell. In Catholicism there is purgatory also.

Catholic AnswerRoman is an epithet first commonly used in England after the protestant revolt to describe the Catholic Church. It is never used by the Catholic Church.

.

There is no difference, the word "Catholic" and "Christian" mean exactly the same thing. However, the word Christian, in the modern culture, ever since the protestant revolt, has become almost meaningless. It has been stripped of all its objective and historical meaning to mean basically anything. Catholic has always been used to describe the Christian Church, since the late first century, the word can also be applied to someone outside of the Catholic Church who has been baptized and believes in the Nicene Creed, in its traditional interpretation. Thus, the Orthodox are all Christians, as well as separated Catholics in the West. The use of the word by protestants to refer to themselves is erroneous except on an individual basis where they would meet the two conditions mentioned above - valid baptism and belief in the Nicene Creed - in its traditional interpretation.

.

from A Catholic Dictionary, edited by Donald Attwater, Second edition, revised 1957Christian. A name first given to the followers of our Lord at Antioch (Acts xi, 26). Since the rise of Protestantism the name has been used in so many different senses as to have become almost meaningless: it may indicate a Catholic or a Unitarian, or even be applied to an infidel who displays some virtue which is associated with Christ. It may reasonably be applied to the members of all the ancient churches, whether in communion with the Holy See, or not, and to those Protestants who profess, explicitly or implicitly, the Nicaean creed in its traditional interpretation. The Church puts no definite official meaning on the word, as she does on Catholic.

There is no doubt that the Roman Catholic Church is a Christian Church. It is in the mainstream of Christianity.

Many Catholics would say that the Roman Catholic Church is the only true Christian Church. They claim that the Catholic Church was founded by the earliest apostles, although the Orthodox Churches, and indeed the Coptic Church, would arguably have an equal right to make that claim.

On entering a Catholic Church, the main difference that most Protestants would see is the use of images and statues of saints, often with parishioners praying before them. The Catholic Church says this is not idolatory because the saints are only venerated and that the prayers are for intercession to God. Protestants may respond that Jesus is worshipped and that Catholic churches invariably have statues and crucifixes of Jesus, for worship by the congregation.

Catholic AnswerThere is no difference between a Catholic and a Christian, they are one and the same thing.

You might like to ask the question "What is the difference between a protestant and a Catholic? As I think that is what you are asking.

The difference, in modern language comes from those who have separated from the Church, known as heretics by the Church, and their followers, know as protestants, calling themselves Christians and denying the word to the Christian Church, i.e., the Catholic Church. This is ridiculous. However, protestants are Christians insofar as they, individually, are validly baptised, and profess the Nicene Creed - in its traditional interpretation: to that extent they are actually members of the Mystical Body of Christ known as the Catholic Church, howbeit not officially members. Catholicism is NOT a "denomination" of Christianity, when Our Blessed Lord established His Church, He was very clear- there would be only One Church, Peter (and his successors) would be Its head on earth, and Our Blessed Lord would send the Holy Spirit to guide It always. To redefine terms is not helpful when answering questions, and the protestants have redefined many terms over the centuries blurring the waters and making answers difficult.

What is the difference between iglesia and Catholic?

None. The Catholic church is a Christian church. It is correct to call the Catholic Church a Christian church, because all churches that call Christ their deity are in fact Christian. However, not all Christians are Catholic, though all Catholics are Christian. There are many Christian sects that many people refer to as "Christian" when the proper term would be "Protestant." Catholics and Protestants are Christian. Therefore, while Lutherans, Baptists, Methodists, Presbyterians, etc, are correctly identified as Christian, they are not Catholic.
