How is it possible that you hear radio broadcasts with no radio?

any time objects resonate with a radio signal's frequency you have the makings of a crude radio. If those objects react in a way that allow the changes of the radio signal to make noise, you'll hear the audio. This happens when pipes, tape measures, air ducts, electrical and phone wires, are near the same length as a broadcast radio wave. The changes in the radio signal, or modulation, can get passed into other objects through corrosion between pipes, phone wiring, light fixtures and blubs, rain gutters and roofs, exhaust pipes and water heaters, furniture and floors, and so on. Generally, it only happens within a mile or so of a high power AM tower.

Why is it undesirable for a radio loudspeaker to have resonant frequencies in the audio range some cheap AM radio have this problem?

At the resonant frequency, the speaker efficiency is greater so the sound will be louder. For voice radio, a resonance near 2500 Hz might improve intelligibility. For music radio, a resonance at about 200 Hz will enhance the perceived bass from the radio. For high fidelity sound, a flat response from 20 Hz to 20000 Hz is needed. In practice only the highest quality kit comes close to this. Mostly resonance causes unpleasant colouration of the sound. You can learn a lot by playing with the graphic equaliser that ships with many computer sound cards and products like iTunes. Turn up the volume on different frequencies to see what it sounds like.

Can you call someone a dick on the radio?

A lot of radio has turned into such garbage in recent years that it happens every day. Of course, it's gonna make you sound like worse crap than the person you're putting down, and it makes the radio station sound like trash, but if you have some kind of a driving need to run yourself and everybody else down in public, then there's sure to be a station near you where you can get away with it. On the other hand, if you're asking because you heard somebody else do it, if I heard it on one of the stations I listen to, I'd complain to the station's managers, and especially to their advertisers.

What is a example of a wave encountering a new medium?

Dive underwater in a pool while a radio is playing near the pool. While you are underwater, the sound of the radio will be different because the sound waves which are traveling in air at first, encounter water, and must travel through water to reach your ears. So it goes from the medium of air to the medium of water.
