People who suffer from high blood pressure have to limit their sodium consumption, whereas diabetics have to limit their sugar consumption, which is an entirely different nutrient. Of course, a person could certainly have both Diabetes and high blood pressure, in which case he or she would have multiple dietary restrictions, but diabetes in itself is not an impediment to consumption of sodium. So, salt your food if you wish, diabetics.

I agree with the previous Contributor's "none at all," except I'd like to clarify it. Even fresh foods, such as fruits, vegetables and meats, contain some sodium. It's impossible to consume none of it, unless you don't eat at all, and that wouldn't last very long. A person with hypertension should avoid processed foods, which are typically much higher in sodium than their unprocessed equivalents. He or she should also avoid adding salt to food. Assuming you eat enough throughout each day, the amount of sodium that occurs naturally in your fresh foods should suffice to maintain your body's processes.

you do not need to add sodium to your diet. Just don't add salt on all food. and a table spoon of salt is your daily sodium! Gross huh?
