What sand paper do you use to ruff up the paint on your car before you clear coat it?

220 down to around 400/600. Then polish. You have to wet sand or dust off area or blow it off with air often to see what you are doing.
220 will take the clear completely off! If you are block sanding before buffing and polishing, start with 1500 wet then use 2000 wet. You can do it again with 3000 bit you probably won't need to. Be careful buffing, do not burn through the paint!

∙ 11y agoWet 600 is the coarsest I would use. A better way would be to use one of the different grits of Scotch Brite. Most body shops use it now more than sand paper.

Area will have to be sanded to get rid of the spots which will probably get into the paint. If you are careful 320 grit paper to even the surface out and reapply clear coat. keep in mind if you get into the paint it will have to be srayed color before clear is applied. Clear coat is not that bad cost wise figyre the clear, the activator about 2 Qts for what you are doing about 100.00 to 140.00 for a good clear. Where you shoot it is the problem which could be the expensive part of the deal.
