Many poor rural farmers came simply because the united states had plenty of jobs available and few Immigration restrictions. Others to avoid forced military service which in some nations could last for many years, and some to avoid religious persecution.

Some of the reasons were:

To make a better life for themselves and their family.

The freedom or toleration of the right to worship.

Be able to get a good job with reasonable wages.

To feel important, and respected by others, for many immigrants had low feelings about themselves. This was because the countries they were leaving may have a higher classes of society that didn't like them.

To have the rights and freedoms that they could not have in their original homeland.
