Controllers work a basic 40-hour week; however, they may work additional hours, for which they receive overtime, or premium, pay or equal time off. Because most control towers and centers operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, controllers rotate night and weekend shifts.

But that's very unlikely since the Air Force is over manned, because of that, they are only accepting the best qualified candidates. You should make sure that the Air Force is right for you before you are three months into your service commitment because you CANNOT get out very easily. Once you've decided that the Air Force is right for you, you need to take the ASVAB, it is a test to determine if you are mentally qualified to join the military. The Air Force is one of the hardest military branches to get into. And you must qualify to be an air traffic controller. Once you've qualified, you have to enlist in the Air Force. You can enlist for a period of four, five, or six years, you would go to Air Force Basic Training at Lackland Air Force Base in Texas where you will learn basic airmanship skills. It last about 8 weeks. After that, you would go to Technical School for becoming an air traffic controller.
