Beekeepers wear protective clothing so they will not be stung. One or two stings is annoying and painful, but large numbers of stings can be fatal. When you are working around entire hives of bees, large numbers of stings is what can happen if something goes wrong.

Just to add to the previous answer, I teach beekeeping, and I have heard the odd student say something like 'Oh, my bees are so calm I don't really need my bee-suit.' My response is that one must always wear protective clothing. You can go to the bees a number of times and they are perfectly calm. The next time you go to them and open the hive they would fly out on the attack, and you won't know why. Bees are wild animals and cannot be tamed, and you just can't take the risk.
The absolute minimum should be a veil to protect your face and in particular your eyes, nose, ears and mouth. If you are thinking of taking up beekeeping, then I would advise that you get an all-in-one protective suit which will not only give you (nearly) complete protection from stings but will also give you confidence that you won't be stung. You will also need a pair of gauntlet type gloves. However, if you are serious about beekeeping, you would be well advised to contact your local beekeepers before buying ANY equipment.
The bees don't take too kindly to having their honey stolen so will sting anyone who tries to remove it so the beekeeper has to wear protective clothing.
To reduce the number of stings they receive.
To avoid sting from the bees...
Beekeepers wear white clothing because white has a calming effect on bees so they are less inclined to attack.
For general attire you can wear anything you are comfortable with. In stricter moral or religious settings more and simpler clothing may be required by society. In dangerous settings you need protective clothing.

Most people who don't wear protective clothing do it because they think it will make them look cool if they don't wear it.
You should wear protective clothing because you could easily hurt yourself e.g: builders have to wear helmets to protect them from anything falling on them.
Beekeepers wear a variety of things. If only the head is covered it is a 'hat and veil' or just simply a veil, but if it is the all-in-one garment with integrated veil this is usually called a bee suit.
when u are on a motorbike..
Stay away from them. If you have to be among them, wear protective clothing.
There are many occupations that would require the use of protective clothing. A Fire Fighter needs to protect himself from the heat and flames before he/she enters a burning building. A construction worker would need to wear protective gear such as a hard hat. A worker at a power plant may need to wear a Hazmat suit before entering a radioactive area.
