Animals -like horses, oxen, men, women, and mules to do the work required. Or windmills and waterfall wheels to turn machines. There were candles and oil lamps for lighting.
Power was manually generated by men and women; they also made use of animal power of horses, camels, donkeys and elephants. Wood and coal were also used to generate power. Machines were operated by the power provided by windmills, waterfall machines, and even by crude production of solar energy.
Light itself was not invented. There were no people before there was light. Now, if you mean the electric light, humans simply used other light sources. They did most of their work during the day, slept at night, and used flammable materials to light fires when they needed light at night.
They did all the work done by electricity today by hand. They didn't have computers to calculate things, or telephones to communicate around the world, or the internet. They lit their homes by gas lamps or candles or kerosene lanterns. They heated their homes with fireplaces and stoves. They cooked on fire and heated their water the same way.
Well, there are many details to this, but here are some highlights. Note that many people all over the world STILL survive without electricity.
People used below ground "root cellars" to store food. In many places, they bought blocks of ice to help cool the ice box or to use to chip ice off of. Frozen lakes or ice caves were used as a resource. Companies would cut the blocks of ice, surround them with straw and then deliver the blocks through the rest of the year.
In the immediate pre-lightbulb era, people lit their homes with gas light (wealthy city dwellers) or kerosene lamps (everyone else).
People used candles made of animal fat.
