It depends on how you are wanting to tow it. If you tow it four wheels on the ground, you will destroy the transmission so the key position doesn't matter. The key would need to be one notch forward to unlock the steering.
You need to use a tow dolly or a trailer.

The 2.7L is the only direct fit. The Sebring could have been built with a 2.4L, but you would need the proper transmission, computers, and wiring harnesses.
