Around a typical bar magnet - or any magnetised object (like the Earth, for example) - there are lines of magnetic flux. These are said to flow away from the north pole and re-enter at the south pole.

These field lines become evident if iron filings are sprinkled over a sheet of paper underneath which there is a bar magnet. Their direction can be plotted using a small 'plotting compass'.The needle aligns with the N-S field (flux) lines and the needle follows the same pattern as revealed by the iron filings.

When two magnets are brought close to each other, the flux lines from both magnets interact. If these flux lines are flowing in the same direction, they will link up and the magnets will attract each other. If they are flowing in opposite directions, they will produce a repulsive force and push away from each other, (often taking the magnets with them!) The force between them depends on the separation distance and the flux density (magnetic strength) of the magnets used

A:Now that you know the uber predictable nature of magnets, theory. in Baseball when you swing a bat and it hits the ball dead on, you feel the shock of the collision move from the bat into your arms. this is just a transfer of energy. through physical means, but we are all fields and strings, so what is the actual energy medium? nuclei are little points relative to the space it uses so it contributes to the inertia but is not directly touched. the electron clouds of atoms from dead skin cells on you hands have negative fields which repel other taken electrons. and push against the electrons on the lacar which is sent to the balls electrons. those electrons drag their nuclei and you get a "moving object". but that's electric force. but if you put 2 like sides together it repels, how is what i think best answers this difficult question is this. the way mechanical energy is transfered from one pole to another whether push or pull. gravity is the force that bends spacetime to move stuff, so what is magnetism doing to make movement. it sends very small particles like neutrinos which flow is affected. the flow causes a repulsive force or attractive. they flow from the positive pole to the south as stated above. magnets after a long period of time lose their strength largely because the poles in atom randomize eventually, a little weight is lost also from emitting these continuously. particles like these, neutrinos come from reactions in the sun and fly at earth near light speed, but are so small and neutrally charged, they can fly right through the earth and come out the other side unstruck and whizz back into space. trillions pass through every square inch a second. the difference with the magnetic particles can be attracted via ionic vacuum pressure. they are small like neutrinos so they pass through pretty much anything between two magnets without losing energy transfered. think like flying past a black hole, you start to notice your coarse changing and maybe you get pulled in or maybe you just cut it. the flow or bend of the flow from positive to negative causes change in electron velocities relative to each other and they drag there nuclei. they are small, but still have mass which not even one can exceed the speed of light and acceleration to C would take a theoretical infinite amount of energy. but 99.99% is incredibly much doable since the function(E) exponentially peaks quite suddenly. the speed of these tiny particles still are tiny amounts faster which significant increases its relative momentum and perceived mass. harder collisions are "bent" toward oppositely charged electron clouds. mass cannot be lost in this system so they are converted to energy which can take many forms, including mechanical energy and inertial state. a flux field shares duality with these "transfer" particles".
