Software engineers are part of the IT industry. There is a very wide range of jobs in the IT industry and a wide range of pay for people who are involved in the same areas. So some software engineers would be better paid than others. Things like experience and the projects they are working on and the companies they are working for would all affect their rates of pay.

Actually there is no comparison between IT and Computer Science. CS is taught as an engineering level major at most universities. If you go with CS then you will have to take high level math and science classes as well as doubling your required computer knowledge. An IT graduate can look forward to a salary around $2,500 a month while a CS graduate can expect a starting salary between $5000 and $7000 a month(depending on what college you go to and your GPA). There is also the question of job security. The IT department and Human Resources department are among the 1st to be downsized when a company is wanting to cut costs. A CS major would be less likely to lose there job than an IT graduate. IT jobs are easy to get and easy to lose. Basically, asking the difference between IT and CS is like asking what is the difference between being a nurse and a doctor. Nurses make a good living, are highly trained, and work in the medical field but they are not expected to have the knowledge of nor are they paid like a doctor. To wrap it all up...A lot of students start out as CS majors and drop down to IT majors because CS is too hard for them(I had a lot of friends who did exactly that). I would suggest you start out as a CS major because the option of going to IT will be there if you want to make the change. Going from IT up to CS will be harder because most of your IT classes would not satisfy the more difficult CS degree plan. IT is a good career that pays relatively well and has the bonus of being a less challenging major in college. CS has higher rewards but is harder to attain. ***I have to edit my answer after seeing some of the pro-IT posts on here and on your other question. Don't get me wrong. IT is a good major and can lead to a solid career but it is just factually WRONG to say that IT is in anyway superior to a CS degree. I am not bashing the IT field or people with IT degrees but you asked a question so I am giving the facts so you can make your own decision on which one is better. All you have to do is ask the counselor at your school and they will tell you there is a huge difference. I am a Computer Scientist and I am directly affected by the difference because I, as a CS degree holder, have several IT degree holders working for me. When I graduated from college, the average starting salary for a CS major from my school was $86,000 per year. The average starting salary for an IT major was $32,000. Basically both degrees have their pros and cons. It really depends on what you want to do. It is a fact that an IT degree holder could someday make 6 figures but that is true of any degree if the person is talented enough and works hard enough. A CS major is going to start with a salary double that of an IT major, in most cases, and can grow just as fast in level and salary thus always out pacing the lower paying degrees. IT = great major, great degree. CS = great major, and great degree. One just needs to decide which one fits them better.

I would say Computer science because it covers things into more depth. Also there is a wider choice to pick from so you're not limited.

What is the difference between mechanical engineering and systems engineering?

Software Engineering (SE) deals with building and maintaining software systems. It is more software-oriented and has a greater emphasis on large software applications than Computer Engineering. It is more applied than Computer Science, placing greater emphasis on the entire software development process, from idea to final product. It is also more disciplined than Computer Science, applying more systematic practices to help ensure that products are reliable and safe. Systems Engineering (SE) is an interdisciplinary field of engineering, that focuses on the development and organization of complex artificial systems. Systems Engineering integrates other disciplines and specialty groups into a team effort, forming a structured development process that proceeds from concept to production to operation and disposal. Systems Engineering considers both the business and the technical needs of all customers, with the goal of providing a quality product that meets the user needs.

What does a software engineer do apart from producing software?

While most people think of a "software engineer" only as the person who sits around and writes code, this job is actually much more complex. Software engineers must see a software product through its whole lifecycle. This starts with some idea a customer has, goes through multiple stages each of: gathering requirements, setting formal specifications, implementation, testing, and maintenance.

How much money do robotic engineers make?

In general, engineers along with just about any other profession, make either what they deserve or what they can negotiate. It's all about perception. If an employer perceives that an employee or candidate can provide greater value, the employee MAY be entitled to more money. If an engineering degree is all the employer is looking for, he/she may be willing to pay more for that piece of paper. On the other hand, if an employer needs an engineer to produce, the employee will more likely be paid based on his/her value to the company.

Which gcse subject need for software engineering?

You need: I.C.T, Maths, Additional Maths, Physics and Technology (and whatever else you want). You need additional maths to take on maths to AS Level. I.C.T is an absolute must and Technology goes well with it and Physics is 1/3 of the engineer part along with Technology and Maths.

Software Engineering Jobs?

We live in an increasingly technological society, where business and communication occur digitally, on computers and online. Software engineers are the professionals who design programs that connect us to family, connect businesses to customers, and connect citizens to government. Software engineers at Google design email programs and search engines that make the web more accessible. Not all software engineers work for large companies, however; a large number of software engineers are entrepreneurs who run small companies, designing innovative solutions to new challenges online. These engineers can often sell their products or services to huge companies for millions of dollars. Software engineers should have a degree in computer science, as well as professional experience designing software and testing new programs. Some software engineering jobs will require an advanced degree, while most are only seeking candidates who can perform the desired job functions.
