Don't replace anything. The dealer can make you new keys by using the Vin # on your vehicle.
Replace. Keys are not the same
You do not need a key to replace the ignition switch.
you will have to replace the complete ignition switch with a new one.
Not the starter, but the weight of the keys can be damaging to the ignition key cylinder.
call a locksmith
It would be easier to go to your nearest GM dealer and have them code a new key from the VIN #.
the ignition keys are dealer only items.
Yes, originally the door and ignition keys are the same. but if you have to replace your ignition / steering column, you will have a different (re-keyed) key for the door and for the ignition.
hi; had the ignition key cylinder replace June 9,08 on a 1995 corolla. i could turn the key half way for the radio to come on; but could not turn all the way to start the car. i found out that you have to take it to the dealer to get it fix so that they can make the keys for it. the cost was around $425 with keys; what a hassel i went through.
New AnswerUsing your current key, insert it into the ignition & turn the ignition to the "On" position but not the "Start" position. Do not start the truck. Next, using a very small screwdriver (preferably a Phillips head) insert it into the hole located under the ignition key cylinder on the steering column.Pressing upwards with the small screwdriver or nail, you will press in the release button.Firmly grip the key & ignition cylinder while pressing up on this release button & remove while in the "On" position.Insert your new ignition cylinder with the key in it, into the "On" position until it snaps in place. Going in, the release button does not need to be depressed. You now have a Cylinder key, that will not match your door lock keys!Best of luck.
First, the best thing to do is go over to the parts store and pick up an ignition lock cylinder WITH KEYS. Then take off all parts of the dash that cover up your cylinder. Then look at the new one find where the little button is to push. Put the keys in the ignition, turn it to the on position (battery disconnected), push the pin in and it will come right out by pulling on the key
You can back up to it with a tow truck and tow it away
