What needs to be checked when your tail lights as well as your dash lights and brake lights the headlight switch has been changed and the fuses and bulbs are all good in a 98 Ford Contour?

I ha dthis very same problem and couldn't find anything. I replaced the headlight switch twice and while I was trying it the second time I turned the switch on and off and it worked!? What I discovered is that it wasnt the switch itself but the plug that goes into the switch. It wasn't making a good connection or plugging in tight anymore therefore not working. I wasnt in any mood to go buy the wiring harness for that and route it through as far as it goes and it just looked like a pain because I couldn't see where all the wires went without tearing the dash apart so I turned the wires onto the switch where it worked or made contact. I then used Duct Tape to hold it in place to make the connection and I haven't had trouble with it in more then 5 years now.

check all of the fuses.if they are ok, check the bulbs. If ok, have the headlight switch checked out. My dad has a 95 contour that had the same problem the tail lights and interior lights went out. There was some switch( I believe under the dash) that controled it, that had to be replaced by ford. I found this question actually looking for it because I had the same problem with my 93 Ford Probe. I tried everything. Changed fuses in car, checked bulbs, checked wiring, changed the brake light switch. Nothing worked. Finally figured out it was VERY simple problem!!! It was a fuse under the hood. There's a fuse box under there that I didn't even know of for a while. When I changed it I didn't even know if that was it and IT WAS. Now my dashlights and tail lights work. GOOD LUCK!!

If the headlight that runs through the modulator first is out then the daytime running lights won't work. Change the bulb and the daytime lights should then work.

From my Experience most of the time its a fuse that is blown. The dashboard and tail lights run off the same fuse

Pull out slightly on the headlight switch. If the fog lights do not respond you need to replace the switch.

You more than likely need to replace the headlight switch. Lights not going out when turned off is a symptom of a bad headlight switch.
