The peoples of Kenya by and large wear a great deal of Western style clothing, such as slacks, jeans, button down shirts and shoes or flip-flops. However, even then, women may be seen wearing a kanga, which is a brightly colored piece of fabric that is worn around the waist, or used as an infant sling. They may also use headscarves. Those who have not adopted Western dress will continue wearing their traditional clothing, such as the gorfa. This garment consists of a sheepskin or goatskin wrapped around the body and held together with a leather cord.
Because Kenya consists of about 70 different ethnic groups(tribes), they do not have a style that is 'national or traditional Kenyan clothing.' Certain tribes have different ways of dressing. There is so much diversity in Kenya. A lot of Kenyan women prefer to dress modestly. Thighs and breasts are considered private areas, and should be covered. Many city girls however wear very tight, revealing clothing. While visiting Kenya, you should respect their views on modesty(in my opinion), i.e. dress modestly. Women should avoid wearing tight and revealing clothing.
