There are several Martial Arts that originated in India, but the most common and well-known are Kalaripayattu, Silambam, and Varma Kalai.

Kalaripayattu is the oldest martial art in existence and is thought to have been around for over 5000 years. It is an ancient martial art form that originated in the Southern states of India and is still practiced today. It is a highly structured form of combat and is composed of three distinct components: Meythari (body movements), Varisai (stances), and Angathari (weapons). Kalaripayattu combines both physical and mental aspects and is considered to be one of the most complete fighting systems in the world.

Silambam is another ancient martial art that originated in India and dates back to the 5th century. It is a stick fighting art and is based on the use of a three-foot-long bamboo staff. It is said to have been used by the ancient Tamil warriors in battle and is still practiced today. The techniques involve striking, blocking, parrying, and thrusting, as well as grappling and throwing. Silambam is also known for its spiritual aspects, and many practitioners believe that it helps to develop both the physical and mental aspects of self-defense.

The last martial art that originated in India is Varma Kalai. It is an ancient martial art that is believed to have been practiced by the ancient Tamil kings. It is based on the pressure points of the body and is said to be a form of healing as much as it is a form of combat. The techniques involve striking and blocking, as well as manipulating the pressure points to cause pain or even paralysis. Varma Kalai is often used in combination with other martial arts and is considered to be an effective form of self-defense.

These are the three most common and well-known martial arts that originated in India. They all have a long and rich history and are still practiced today. Each art has its own unique techniques and benefits, so it is important to research them before deciding which one is best for you.

Kshatriya is a martial art that originated from India around 400 BC. Legend has it that the Bodhidharma came from India and brought the knowledge of the Indian martial arts with him. He taught it to the monks in China and it became the root of the Chinese martial arts including Kung Fu and Tai Chi Chuan. Later these arts traveled throughout Asian and became part of many others, including karate.

Second answer

The Mahabharata (c. 4th c. BCE) mentions characters using fists, knees, kicks, palm slaps and head-butting to fight each other. No name is ever applied to the style, though. Kalaripayattu was first written about during the Chola Dynasty (11th c. CE), which is roughly 1,500 years after the period you are asking about. Kalaripayattu is certainly older than the 11th century due to its effectiveness in battle, but there is no way of telling when it was first developed. The connection to East Asian martial arts is based on a legend that does not predate the 20th-century.

A 17th-century qigong manual known as the Sinew-Changing Classic claims the monk Bodhidharma created a stretching and breathing exercise that gave practitioners great strength. This exercise was later mistaken for boxing by the author of a 20th-century satirical Chinese novel. This mistake was then echoed in martial arts manuals in the following decades. It is now a common legend spread orally in martial arts circles.

For more, see section XIII of the Mahabharata (in the link below) and the modern books When the Body Becomes All Eyes: Paradigms, Discourses and Practices of Power in Kalarippayattu, a South Indian Martial Art (1998) by Phillip B. Zarrilli and The Shaolin Monastery (2008) by Meir Shahar.

What type of Martial Art is Ranma ½ based on?

Ranma ½ isn't based on any one style of martial arts, but several of them, and many of them are parodied or are inaccurate. The school of martial arts that Ranma and his father, along with Akane and Soun Tendo practice, is known as the Anything-Goes School of Martial Arts, so while it incorporates numerous actual martial arts techniques, it also uses ridiculous "techniques" and fictionalized martial art styles.

What martial arts were used in the movie Charlie's Angels?

Of course Martial arts was used in Charlie's Angles, but as for the specific type I am not sure. If it is like most other movies, however, it is probably a vast array of different types. Usually, because of all the different martial arts there are, when people are taught a martial art, and then learn more than one, when they reteach one or the other they combine them. But in the movies, depending on what the directors want in the scene, the type of martial art will change, because every martial art specializes in a different category! Lucy Liu personally practices the martial arts of Kali-Eskrima-Silat (knife-and-stick fighting). But the choreographed moves were a mixture of several eastern martial arts including various styles of wushu and karate.
