When he met Yeshua, he recognized him as the Maschiach (Christ) of Israel who was promised in the Tanach (Old Testament) by Adonai to Israel. He would have been living a way of life that was compatible with the Torah teachings. He was not a Christian of the context of the church. He would have been a messianic Jew, a true christian according to The Bible.
