There are several reasons. He came from a wealthy Boston family that was prominent in society. He was a Senator, a president, a WW2 war hero ( he saved a man when his PT boat was sunk and wrote a book called PT 109), and he was a young vibrant president with a lovely wife and two children when he was shot by Oswald. The day that it happened it seemed like the whole world died. The world did change that day in Nov. and hasn't been the same since.
