A insanely high priced fluid called gm synchromesh. Can be had online and at dealers. Pennzoil now has a version out, but Im unsure of its pricing. Most people end up using a 5-30 NON synthetic motor oil.
In fact some people with high mileage transmissions report that they ended up having to use motor oil even after buying the gm synchromesh, turns out it can be too good of lubrication for the worn internals and they had issues engaging gears or were completely unable to, until they re-flushed the transmission and switched to regular motor oil.
Which would be a major budget killer.
The five speed uses ATF+4. The eight speed uses a special oil for the 8hp 45 transmission.
