Many people would have been farmers or farm labourers, around coastline there have been many fishermen. In the north of Italy, they worked in textiles and refiining. There would probably have been quite a lot of women working as seamstreses, sewing clothes etc. In cities there would probably a lot of people worked in offices as clerks, typists, secretaries etc. Some of them been actors, writers, musicians, and artists.
