If you live in the US, the legal age to get a job is 14. Most employers, though, won't hire someone until they are 15 or 16. If you can, try getting a job at a cafe or something that regularly has muscians. Get a job moving instruments for bands. Be in a band. Join a choir, band, or try to develop your musical talent in a way that a club, cafe etc would hire you to play for a night. ____ When I was 14, I volunteered to file records at a local radio station, which I think paid $50 for the entire summer. The truth was, I would have paid them for the opportunity to work there and listen to all the new albums as soon as they came out. College radio stations in particular are often shorthanded in the summertime, so you might start there. Other than that, you could spend the summer studying the music business. Start by reading Donald Passman's excellent "All You Need To Know About The Music Business". You could also read a few of the cautionary tales about the record industry: my favorite is "Hit Men" by Fredric Dannen. Or just head to the library and thumb through the music business and technology sections until you find titles that excite you. Through study, you may also start to find out what part of music best suits your interests: performance, business, technology, or even starting your own label. Finally, if you're a musician yourself, spend the summer practicing. Choose one piece and really master it, or practice sight-reading or ear training. All of these skills will pay dividends later in your career.

When You Turn 14 . . .

You can work in an: office, grocery store, retail store, restaurant, movie theater, baseball park, amusement park, or gasoline service station.

You generally may not work in: communications or public utilities jobs, construction or repair jobs, driving a motor vehicle or helping a driver, manufacturing and mining occupations, power-driven machinery or hoisting apparatus other than typical office machines, processing occupations, public messenger jobs, transporting of persons or property, workrooms where products are manufactured, mined or processed, or warehousing and storage.

In addition, you may not work any other job or occupation declared hazardous by the Secretary of Labor.

Different rules apply to farms, and individual States may have stricter rules.

(See link below)

  • Some family restaurants will hire you for dishwasher, bus-boy/girl with parental consent.
  • He/she could shovel snow for people in the neighborhood. And in summer mow lawns, pull weeds.
  • Some places that sell ice cream/ice cream stands offer jobs for 14-year-olds.
  • Supermarkets, especially bagging groceries. Many grocery stores in some areas hire at 14. For example, A&P, Publixs, Kroger.
  • You can earn a little extra money on Cashcrate. It's a site that pays you to do surveys.
  • Fast food restaurants. Some fast food places hire at 14, e.g. McDonald's, Burger King, Wendy's, Subway. Fancy restaurants will not hire you as a waiter.
  • If you need a job ask your parents to mow grass, water plants, watch children, help out old or young people, paper boy, build things from stores, ask to put things in certain racks at like gas stations or any other place you might visit, you can be a sweeper at a hair place or and restaurant, fast food place. take care of your little siblings,.
  • You might be able to get a CPR license and get a summer job as a life guard.
  • I now work at a horse farm. I help at parties, I groom the horses, and I do other stuff. You should choose something you like. If you like animals then you could help out at a shelter.
  • I used to work at my church watching the younger children in the nursery.
  • I work at a local bowling alley, they have a room for parents to drop off their children while they bowl on leagues. The bowling alley pays me because this way they get more people to sign up for leagues. Sometimes parents will also tip.
  • Work at a "Pick-Your Own" Farm. You will get paid a decent amount. For example, in the fall you can go to apple orchards and offer to pick up the apples that have fallen on the ground. I used to do this and get paid 50 cents a basket. This may not sound like much but the basket fill up quick and it still leaves time for other part time jobs.
  • You can start your own worm beds and sell the worms for fishing.
  • Offer to help clean out people's garage, barn, attic, basement, etc. They will pay you to clear out the clutter. If there]s stuff worth saving that they want to get rid of you can then have a garage sale to earn even more money.
  • Look for stuff at garage sales that might sell good on eBay. Remember to bargain at the garage sale, the less you pay the more you will make when you resell the item.
  • Paperboy.
  • Babysitter.
  • Walk dogs or pet sitter.
  • Look around your local corner shops, farm shops, charity shops to see if they have any availabilities.
  • Camp counselor. Or look at summer camps and after school programs to work with children. Programs are always looking for extra help with the little ones at schools
  • You can, actually, get a job at 14 if you live in a state that allows it (California, for example). Most places aren't normally willing to hire 14 year olds, but present yourself to them professionally and you'll definitely impress them. For the child labor laws, just do a search for "[your state] child labor law", eg, "California child labor law".
  • Do work for your neighbors, e.g. lawn, landscaping, or cleaning out garages.
  • Some public libraries hire 14-year-olds to re-shelve books. The pay is usually just above minimum wage. Also, during the summer, waterparks like SplishSplash (on Long Island) hire 14-year-olds.
  • you can work at a local pool. i (14 year old) am going to this summer as a concession stand worker. positions fill up fast! look in your local paper or civic center for applications or phone numbers.
  • If you live in an area where corn is grown, you can get a job detasseling for a few weeks out of the year. It's good money, but you have to get up early in the morning and work in very hot weather.
  • I'm 14 and employed in the fall and spring as a soccer referee, and in the summer as a Sno Cone Maker in the parking lot of the local recreation center. There are quite a few jobs for 14-year-olds here.
  • When I was 12, I applied to be a soccer referee (in Sydney, Australia). I started when I was 12 and finished it at 14, and got a new job at City Beach Store until age 15, when I started a new job at Coles.
  • It depends where you live. Try using the Google search form and type in, "At what age can a minor work and receive pay?"
  • If you are too young then you could work in a grocery store as a delivery boy, stocking shelves, etc. You could do "odd jobs" for neighbors like mowing their lawns, fixing fences, painting those fences, etc. You can baby-sit for neighbors and possibly put a few notices on lamp standards, etc., to advertise baby-sitting services. You can "dog walk." There are many people that have to leave their dogs at home and would love a dependable person to come in and walk their dog for good exercise.
  • You could baby-sit children.
  • At 14, there are plenty of jobs. I am 15, and I started my first job at 14, at a McDonald's restaurant. You can also be a hostess for a restaurant, or even a busboy. All minimum wage paying jobs, but jobs none the less.
  • I think you can get a job pushing grocery carts at the local grocery store... but of course it depends on the store. I've also heard that you can get a job at Price Chopper (grocery store).
  • Depending on the state you live in, McDonald's and other fast-food restaurants may let you work part time.
  • If you want to earn money and can't get a job with a business, be creative. What can you do? Mow lawns, baby-sit, or yard work, paper route. For a regular flow of incoming cash, you could do a paper route.
  • Publix stores hires 14-year-old as baggers.
  • Chic-Fil-a also hires 14-year-olds for various positions.
  • Taco bell hires 14-year-olds.
  • Kroger hires 14-year-olds.
  • Your could see if you could work on a farm.
  • It is not true that you can't work at the age of 14. Some states require a working permit for 14- and 15-year-old teenagers and others don't. There are some non-agricultural jobs that you can get, e.g., grocery stores. It also depends on the employer. You should probably check out your state labor laws.
  • You can work at 14 as long as you have a workers permit -- which some schools provide. Or you can call (US 614) 644-2239 and look at websites such as www.youthrules.dol.gov and www.com.state.oh.us for more info. The law says you CAN work at certain places with a permit.
  • One place where you can work is Blockbuster. They pay anywhere from $9 to $12 bucks per hour. You can also get a job at Kroger at age 14; they pay pretty well too.
  • You can be a paperboy, baby-sit, work at a fast-food place or a supermarket. You could also have a look in the phone book or the newspaper.
  • Try mowing lawns; you can't get a real job till you are 16.
  • 14 is pretty young for most employers. Try shoveling snow, yard work, cleaning houses for neighbors, babysitting. Otherwise, maybe you could intern or volunteer with a company and then in a year or so they will trust you so much that they will give you a real job right away instead of the low-end jobs most 16-year-olds get. Try picking up garbage for a construction company, or answering phones for a non-profit organization.
  • You could always apply for a job at a movie theater.
  • Look on the billboards at one of your local shops. I did this and now I have a job as a waitress and I also babysit most Friday nights!
  • You can get a job at a Sno cone stand or any other small- time business. I'm 13 and I got work at a Sno cone stand that pays $300 a week.
  • IHOP hires at 14 here in GA, I work at IHOP.
  • Years ago, I was able to secure my first "real" job at Chik-fil-a, at the age of 14. You may want to try this. They were very family oriented. Sundays were closed to be with family, uniforms were provided, as well as free meals on days worked.
  • baby-sitting, fast food, waiter/waitress (some places), and party helpers at places like ice/roller skating rinks; arcade type places; etc.
  • If you are too young then you could work in a grocery store as a delivery boy, stocking shelves, etc. You could do "odd jobs" for neighbors like mowing their lawns, fixing fences, painting those fences, etc. You can baby-sit for neighbors and possibly put a few notices you've made up on lamp standards, etc., to advertise baby-sitting services. You can "dog walk." There are many people that have to leave their dogs at home and would love a dependable person to come in a walk their dog for good exercise. I admire you for wanting to work at such a young age.
  • Don't get a job. not at 14, once you start working you can never stop.
  • I am currently 14 years of age, and i asked in shops at the high street. Many said No, but I went far up the high street and visited the 99p Store. I asked in there and they said that they take 14 year olds, so i sent my CV in and a week later i got a job interview and got the job. I work weekends and 2 hours after school and the pay is good for teenagers!
  • Ask a neighbor (if they have a dog or cat) if they ever need a sitter. It's a lot of fun and you get lots of $$$.
  • You could ask a local grocery store if you can apply and they will say you have to be 16 but if you bring your parent in and same you need a job really bad and they can pay you as low as they want they will almost definitely give it to you.
  • You can also be a babysitter or a paper delivery person, some fast food places, possible a fashion store (if your a girl haha unless you wouldn't mind) And much more places.
  • You have to get working papers, depending on the type of work. I think you get these either at school or from the town clerks office. Try the town clerks office for summer jobs, those are the best! They pay very well for example, for helping supervise or play with younger children.
  • Looking in the job centers
  • Looking in magazines/newspapers/online (<-----be careful with online vacancies)
  • Ask friends and family if they know of any vacancies
  • Visit your local Connexions centre or Centrelink or visit their website if you are between 13-19
  • Look for vacancies on boards in supermarkets
  • Advertise yourself (do not give personal details unless necessary, and if you do, tell a parent) in shop windows
  • Help out around the house (chores)
  • I have been mowing lawns in my neighborhood since i was 10. i once made over 400 dollars in one summer
  • Teen girls can make money pretty easily, especially during the summer. They can babysit, clean houses or yards, wash cars, and work at a fast food restaurant if they are 16 years or older.
  • Boys can mow lawns, fix cars if they have the skills, and work at a fast food restaurant if they are 16 or older.
  • This time of year i would take a lawn mower around the area when i was 14.made some decent change.
  • In the USA you may have to get a work permit, which you can typically get at a school, there are certain jobs you cannot do, and there are limitations on the number of hours you can work.
  • You can get job at a fast food restaurant, movie theaters, barber shop, daycare, and possibly retail stores.
  • You should really make yourself a resume, even if you haven't had a job before. You can put any experience like babysitting or something. The employer would be very impressed of how responsible you are.
  • Babysitting
  • Pet-sitting (cleaning, walking, feeding, or all three)
  • Gardening Helper
  • Summer Camp C.I.T. (might not pay)
  • Cleaning Store or Restaurants (possibly late job)
  • Bookstore or Librarian Helper (librarian might not pay)
  • Personal Shopper
  • Dishwashing
  • Publix and Deland FL hire 14 I just called and asked but they said it a slight chance they hire a lot of 14 year old
  • you should ask a store or where ever you would like to work what age they hire at most people hire at 16 or older so it is kind of hard to find a place you would like to work at and get paid reasonable.
  • This is going to sound stupid but a fish & chip shop takes people at 14. I'm 14 and I work at a chippy it's not that bad!
  • bussing or at a tanning place maybe?
  • Chick Fil
  • At Wendys
  • Subway

14 y/o can work no longer than 20 hours a week and that's when you are not in school. you will most likely get jobs such as something at McDonald's, Burger King, Domino's or Pizza Hut. It is not the best thing in the world but at least you got money to buy your girl something by the end of the month.

Work at a summer camp or a local grocery store or a convenient store.

Very difficult- virtually impossible as a long term thing. You may be payed as an actor in a musical, in concerts, in some choirs. But your opportunities are limited- as are anyone's under 18 particularly.

If you are an owner of a market or something, they can work as your helper. If you are interested in real paid jobs, definitely won't be as easy as for an adult. Honestly, you shouldn't send a 14 year old to a working place to work for all day anyways.
