The scale of the map.
It is expressed as a ratio (e.g. 1:10,000) and usually gives the actual distance represented by a centimeter or an inch on the map (e.g. 1 inch = 50 miles).
There may be a bar scale that can be used as a measurement reference, especially if no ruler is available to measure.
well, you can check the km to cm and measure with a ruler e.g 100miles(manchester to aberdeen) will be 1inch on the map when measuring with a ruler!

The road distance between the above places is 697 miles . This is the distance when the shortest route is chosen. Traffic rules like ‘No Entries’ and ‘One Ways’ have not been considered when calculating this distance.
A scale bar helps you find the distance between 2 places on a map. Most scale bars show the distance in km or miles. Or go 200 miles one place or another......or 500 miles on a map
The differences between the these two is that linear scale shows the relation between the map distance and the ground distance. The nonlinear scale do not show the relation between the map distance and the ground distance.

The distance is 27 miles. We can't show you a map here, but there are many other fine websites that can.
the benefit of a map scales is to show the relationship between the distance on the map and the real distance on the ground
A map scale.
Some channels show you the distance between the ball and the goal at freekicks. They also show the speed of the shot. On average a freekick is between 80 and 100km\h.
scales show the relationship between the distance on the map and the distance on the ground. (it makes the make more realistic and so you can calculate distances)
