You are probably thinking of the (Barcarolle) lit Boat or barge carol) which was written by the German or Austrian composer Offenbach! It was as I recall the theme song of the Operetta (Tales of Hoffmann). Song is not of Italian origin. For that matter the song (O Sole Mio) which dates to l9ll, while recorded famously by Caruso-is NOT by any stretch of the imagination an Operatic aria!
