There are 14 generations between 3 Hebrew patriarchs, leading to the birth of Christ. 14 X 3 = 42, which is how many Hebrew characters (letters) are used to spell the unpronounceable name of God.

Number 7 (see wikipedia link below) is sacred to the Jewish & Christian. You can observe this on how Matthew composed the Genealogy of Jesus;

1:17 So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen (7x2=14) generations; and from David until the carrying away into Babylon are fourteen (7x2=14) generations; and from the carrying away into Babylon unto Christ are fourteen (7x2=14) generations.

Unless the number 14 has some particular relevance to you, you might consider each individual character independently. The number 1 is the number of communication, versatility and reason. It also refers to the self. The number 4 represents determination, passion, obsessiveness and jealousy. In numerology, the two characters would be added together to arrive at a single digit number. Therefore, 1+4=5, where the number 5 represents study, learning and justice.

A:The only time that the number 14 is used in The Bible with significance is in Matthew's version of the genealogy of Jesus. The author knew the the power of numerology to convince the superstitious people of their time, and the numbers 7 and 14 had particular importance. Matthew demonstrates that there were 14 generations: from Abraham to David; from David to Josiah; from Josiah to Jesus. To do this, it has to ignore 3 kings in the Old Testament and have David in the preceding (as 14) and following (as 1) groups, but not so Josiah.

The number 14 probably did not have unique siginificance other than as a multiple of 7, which was also seen as propitious. The author of Luke, writing about twenty years after Matthew, knew nothing of what Matthew had said, and so produced another genealogy that had great men occur in multiples of 7 generations starting from Adam, with: Enoch at 7; Abraham at 21; David at 35; Jesus at 77. He also had: Joseph at 42 and 70; Jesus (Jose) at 49. To do this, he had to insert his own fictitious people into the Old Testament list: Kainan at 13; Admin at 28.

In both cases, the significance was to show by means of numerology that Jesus was intended for greatness. Of course, it is not possible for Joseph's father to be called Jacob (Matthew) but also called Heli (Luke), and New Testament scholars say that neither genealogy is likely to be historically accurate.

Another Answer:

In biblical numerology, some have claimed the number 7 and multiples of it (in this case 14), to represent 'perfection/completion.'
