I think Christianity has promoted some valuable ethics, but not for a very long time.

Millions upon millions of people have died, been tortured, had their science or philosophy suppressed etc because of the christian religion.

In Christianity's defense, it is entirely possible "true" Christianity has not even existed for 18 centuries, and what we have today is an immense distortion of the true doctrine, ethics and philosophy.

Of course it's also possible that the ethics were worse and we distorted them to make them better.

Basically, a Christian is to follow Jesus Christ as their perfect example. Jesus put God the Father above all and did the Father's Will without exception. He followed Gods Law and Sabbath completely - to the letter and the spirit of it as it was originally given in the Garden and will be restored again in the Millennium.

The Church began on the 1st Pentecost after Jesus' resurrection in the year 31 AD. Followers then were called people of the 'Way' or members of the Church of God. It was intended to be only one Church (many different locations) for all people. Today, however, the rainbow coalition of churchianity has over 30,000 sects of Christianity. There is no way each of these differing variations can be the correct or true church. Yet adherents in each would strongly disagree.
