Perry William "The Refrigerator" Perry never played for the Steelers. He was a member of the Chicago Bears and Philadelphia Eagles.
The name refrigerator is intended to mean that which makes things frigid (meaning very cold).
fridgidaire
Actually, that is its real name. The word itself came into the language around 1800; it came from the Latin word for making something cold. But it was generally called an "ice box" or a "mechanical ice machine" in its early days. Once some corporations began making it commercially in the early 1900s, it received such brand names as "Frigidaire."
