Saran wrap is commonly used for sealing and wrapping foods. Freezing and storage are also other functions of this plastic wrap which is used in most household.
Assuming that the comparison is for wrapping food for refrigerating to preserve it? Plastic wrap works better because it forms tightly to the food and keeps air out.
Without plastic wrap they may rise in a slightly uneven shape. (If you're rolling the dough into a sausage shape, then supposed to be wrapping it in plastic). They may also dry out during the rising, if you're supposed to be covering them with plastic wrap - in this case, you can just cover them with a damp teatowel. But they shouldn't be a failure due to lack of plastic wrap.
Saran is best known for having been used in Saran Wrap - a thin, clingy plastic wrap that was sold in rolls and used primarily for wrapping food.
~Ceppwo The purpose of plastic wrap and aluminum foil is for food, it helps the food to stay good, without the plastic wrap and aluminum foil, it would be harder for us to keep it good, and with out it, the food would mold faster . . . so there's your answer:)
For freezing, it's best to use plastic wrap or freezer wrap. You can also use zip-lock baggies. Tin foil works in certain instances but you would want to use the meat sooner than if it was wrapped in plastic or freezer wrap.
