To attain eternal life " And behold, a lawyer stood up to put him (Jesus) to the test, saying, "Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?" He said to him, "What is written in the law? How do you read?" And he answered, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind; and to love your neighbor as you love yourself." And he said to him, "You have answered right; do this, and you will live." So that we know and understand God. The purpose of Christianity is to do the will of God and believe in the words of God. The will of God is to preach the gospel, so that other souls in this world can be saved from sin and go to eternal heaven and not suffer the wrath of hell. God does not want us to work to receive our salvation, He wants us to give up on our self and realize that we can do nothing through our own power and work. The first thing we must do to be a christian is to return to God and believe that Jesus Christ the Son of God took away our sins forever and ever and that we don't have to toil to be good, because we can not be good. Through one man (Adam) we have been made sinners into this world. Therefore, we must deny our thoughts, for our thoughts are controlled by Satan and Satan works through our thoughts. We have to throw away what we think is right and return to God. God is Alpha and Omega, and therefore He is eternal and we can be made holy by the forgiveness of sin.

I'd say that the purpose is to serve God and others. The commands in the Bible are all for the good of us and others, because God loves us. It's like the way a parent tells their child not to eat four cookies before lunch. The kid thinks that they are being annoying, but in fact the parent just wants the best for them.

Christ and His Father have a two-fold purpose (plan) in mind. The restoration of God's Government in the universe, which Satan disrupted in the beginning. And the pro-creation of the Eternal, Immortal Family of God as they do it.

"Then cometh the end, when He shall have delivered up the Kingdom to God, even the Father; when He shall have put down all rule and all authority and power. For He must reign, till He hath put all enemies under His feet. The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death... then shall the Son also Himself be subject unto Him that put all things under Him, that God may be all in all." (I Cor.15"24-28)

"...the first heaven and the first earth were passed away... and I John saw the Holy City, New Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her Husband... Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people, and God Himself shall be with them, and be their God..." (Rev.21:1-4).

"...It is done... He that overcometh shall inherit all things (the universe is part of all things); and I will be his God, and HE SHALL BE MY SON"! (verses 6-7)
