Profession has nothing to do with maternity leave policies. Those policies are set by the company that someone is working for based on their needs, and, of course, any laws that apply. An attorney that has a solo practice would pretty much be able to do what they wished, as long as they don't leave their clients in a bad position. An attorney that works for a large corporation would follow the policy of the company.
