He, along with several others in the early years of the United States, was concerned about setting up a centralized government that would have far-reaching powers. He was very hesitant about supporting the Constitution, and was instrumental in having the Bill of Rights be part of it

Jefferson was a life-centered philosopher. Even as the third President of the United States, Jefferson pushed for more interior expansion and set the stage for America to become a world power. He was voracious in his search for information about life and natural life. In the Declaration of Independence his life-centered philosophy shown through in the statement â??We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.â??
