(Website not allowed to be mentioned) states that "One alternative theory is the Steady State universe. An early rival to the Big Bang theory, Steady State posits continuous creation of matter throughout the universe to explain its apparent expansion. This type of universe would be infinite, with no beginning or end.". In the same paragraph, it says "However, a mountain of evidence found since the mid-1960s indicates that this theory is not correct.".

Another theory from (website not allowed to be mentioned) is "he Eternal Inflation theory. After the Big Bang, the universe expanded rapidly during a brief period called inflation. The Eternal Inflation theory posits that inflation never stopped, and has been going on for an infinite length of time. Somewhere, even now, new universes are coming into existence in a vast complex called the multiverse. Those many universes could have different physical laws."

The more well-known of these cosmological theories are the Static Universe introduced by Albert Einstein, the Oscillatory Universe presented by Richard Tolman, the Big Bang Theory of the universe proposed by Georges Lemaitre, the transitional expanding universe theory promoted by Fred Hoyle as the Hot Big Bang Theory, the Steady State Theory postulated by Thomas Gold and Hermann Bondi and also Fred Hoyle, and finally the Inflationary Universe Theory formulated by Alan Guth and Andrei Linde and Paul Steinhardt and Andy Albrecht.

Other comment: The big bang says Start here and expand.
The Big Crunch Theory [Scientific American Mag] tends to take into account the possibility that a coalescing, collapsing Universe is what actually preceded the Big Beginning.

Two main veiws exist on the origin of the universe:

1. The "Big Bang". This theory involves an very large amount of energy gathered into a very small area, sometimes thought of as the "primordial atom." This unstable energy source suddenly 'exploded' (hence the "Big Bang"). The energy created mass (as 'proven' by Einstein's 'e=mc^2), and the mass gathered together to create stars, and eventually planets and galaxies.

2. Intellegent Design. This theory involves a god or gods creating the universe supernaturally.

The Christian Bible describes the cration of the universe in this way:

(Genesis 1:1-5; 14-18)

[1] In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. [2] Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.

[3] And God said, "Let there be light," and there was light. [4] God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness.[5] God called the light "day," and the darkness he called "night." And there was evening, and there was morning-the first day.

[13]And there was evening, and there was morning-the third day.

[14] And God said, "Let there be lights in the vault of the sky to separate the day from the night, and let them serve as signs to mark sacred times, and days and years,[15] and let them be lights in the vault of the sky to give light on the earth." And it was so.[16] God made two great lights-the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night. He also made the stars.[17] God set them in the vault of the sky to give light on the earth,[19] to govern the day and the night, and to separate light from darkness. And God saw that it was good.

The 'stars' mentioned in verse 16 reffer to the entire universe besides the sun, moon, and Earth.

The Inflation Theory, which theorizes that the universe exponentially expanded before the Big Bang's more gradual expansion, was developed to explain some of the shortcomings of the Big Bang Theory.

The big bang theory hypothesizes that all matter consisted of one thing when it exploded and the matter was scattered across the universe.

There are no other theories in the scientific sense that explain the beginning of the universe. All other explanations are unsupported hypotheses.

Evolution does not concern the origin of the universe. Evolution is a theory concerning the origin of species--diverse biological organisms--via mechanisms of inheritance with modification. The origin of the universe is best dealt with by the Big Bang theory.
