The first items you should collect are the serum or clot tubes. Then, follow this by other plasma tubes, then purple (EDTA), then blue (NA Citrate). The reason for this is that during the needle insertion, tissue substances (tissue thromboplastin, electorlytes, etc...) will enter the lumen of the needle and be aspirated into the tube initially. When performing certain tests (clotting studies, etc...) these trace substances may interfere with the results although that is really splitting hairs.
