The Krell were featured on the 1956 science fiction movie named "The Forbidden Planet'. In the movie, the Krell were an extinct race of advance beings of the planet Altair IV which has constructed a machine that ha virtually unlimited power, though not enough to ensure the continuation of the race.
You may be referring to Forbidden Planet or Earth vs The Flying Saucers , Invasion of the Body Snatchers , Godzilla ; all of these are regarded as 'classic' in some sense and were released in 1956 .
