The taco was invented immigrant silver miners in Texas, NOTMexico. Although it is eaten in Mexico today, just as other countries have shared their cuisine around the world. it is not their most popular dish.
Chilli con carne is also wrongly associated with Mexico. Like the taco, chilli con carne was invented in Texas.
According to sales figures, the most popular dish in Mexico is a tie between Guacamole and Chilaquiles.
The most common dishes eaten by Mexicans, in no particular order, are:
- Chilaquiles
- Tostadas
- Chiles en nogada
- Elote
- Mole (not the animal. It's pronounced "Mol-Eh").
- Guacamole
- Tamales
