Compulsion means an irrational behavior or mannerism that is very difficult to resist - such as a 'compulsive' gambler. I am not an expert in this field, but I think the medical and psychiatric belief is that many "compulsions" are related to brain chemistry being out of whack somehow. Compulsion in and of itself isn't necessarily bad, only if the compulsion manifests itself in dangerous or self-destrucive behavior, or if the obsessive behavior has a negative effect on other parts of the person's life.
