Most common CD-Rs nowadays store 700 MB information and 800 MB CD-Rs are also widely available.

Maximum capacity of a CD-R nowadays is 860 MB.

Maximum capacity of a CD is not strictly defined, depending of production technology and the quality of the disk the maximum capacity could be pushed up to about 875 MB.

it is usually marked on it.

In general 700mb storage or 80 minutes recording time is the normal maximum. However there are also some 800MB 90 minute CD's available (among other companies Philips make them). I have heard of 860MB CD-R's but never seen one so am not sure. Not all CD writers and software will write to these and not all CD players will play them.
