Jellyfish lifespans typically range from a few hours (in the case of some very small hydromedusae) to several months. Life generally ends after the medusa has begun spawning. Life span varies by species. Most large coastal jellyfish live 2 to 6 months.

There are two types of butterfly fish. One is the Racoon Butterfly Fish and one is the Copperband Butterfly Fish. The Racoon Butterfly Fish's life expectancy is 4-7 years, and the Copperband Butterfly Fish's life expectancy is 4 years or longer. I say 'longer' because many of them have been known to pass away at different ages, so the other part of it is undetermined. But it is rare for one to die before 4 years.
