they are for basically computer uses and iPod in one. but it is not like the iphone, you can't make calls from it.
An Ipad is mainly a touch computer, but you can download games and movies and have face time with friends!!! :)
Well actually you may have calls from your iPad if you add apps to it. Skype is widely used on iPads and then you can make phone calls. Anyway an iPad is used for so many things that its versatility is perhaps what really defines it.
