The main difference between a roaster and a crock pot is that the roaster has the capability of cooking foods at higher temperatures for shorter periods of time. You have the ability to set your own temperature, much as you would with a conventional oven. A crock-pot is designed for slow, low temperature cooking, over longer periods of time. Usually 4-8 hours. It's almost impossible to burn food in a slow cooker, ...as long as proper consideration is given (fluid levels, amount of food being cooked, time considerations, ...etc).

The difference between a roaster and broiler is the age of the chicken. A roaster is a chicken that has not entered sexual maturity at the time of butchering. They are called roasters because the tenderness of their meat lends itself to roasting. Broilers, on the other hand, are older chickens. Often broilers are hens that are butchered because they have stopped laying eggs. Broilers get their name because their meat is often too tough to make a good roasted meal and is better when slow cooked or broiled.

There are a variety of ways in which a roaster is different than an oven. A roaster, for example, uses less electricity and is thus more cost efficient. Ovens, however, are capable of cooking in a multitude of ways, while roasters are not.

Is a Rib-eye roast better or a standing rib roast?

There's a big difference between a rib eye roast and a standing rib roast. A rib eye roast is essentially a roast consisting of rib eye steaks. A standing rib roast is the same cut of meat as prime rib, only its "choice" not "prime" (like most of the meat we buy). If you are deciding which to purchase for your dinner, I would absolutely recommend the standing rib roast over the other. Standing rib roasts can be hard to find in the supermarket unless its a major holiday, Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc., most likely because they are being aged for those holidays, but especially if they have been aged, they have a flavor that just can't be beat.
