An alien comes from outer space from a planet such as Pandora or perhaps the Death Star. Species include an Avatar, lil green man, or Ewok. An immigrant is a person who comes to America to paint nails or cook Mexican food/ mow your yard.

AnswerLegal Classifications

Immigrants and Aliens. The legal terminologies are important to know. An alien is a person who was not born in the United States and comes into the country from outside. (Do not confuse this use of the term "alien" with its frequent use in Science Fiction to refer to people from outer space.)

After the alien enters the United States legally with the intent to stay in the country, he or she becomes an immigrant.

Aliens admitted legally into the country for temporary periods of time such as tourists or students are called nonimmigrant aliens. The term legal aliens refers to both these types of aliens.

An alien whose temporary visa has expired and who remains in the country or a person who entered the country illegally is called an undocumented alien.

AnswerWhen someone is new to a country they are called an alien. But when they become a citizen of that country of which they are now in, the are known as an immigrant.

What is the difference between a visa number and alien number?

There is not much difference and there is a LOT of difference! A visa number is assigned to a person entering the USA. It later can become his/her Resident Alien number if alien status is granted. An alien number (usually from your visa number) is assigned to you when you have been granted legal Resident Alien status.

What is the difference between a alien and a immigrant?

"Alien"In United States Immigration terms, an alien is someone with foreign sovereignty; someone from a foreign country. As long as that person is a citizen of Another Country, they are considered an alien; it could be someone visiting the US intending to return home, or someone who has been in the United States for some time earning residency credit toward citizenship but who is not yet a US citizen.Example: Lawrence was born and raised in Canada. As long as he is a citizen of Canada or any other country not the United States, he is an alien."Immigrant"The United States has a specific definition of this term, while socially and conversationally it is usually used too broadly. An immigrant is an alien who intends to immigrate to America to eventually become a citizen. Their intention must be approved by the US before that person is formally recognized by our government as an Immigrant.Example: Lawrence falls in love with a United States citizen and wants to live in the US permanently with his wife. He will apply for an Immigrant visa.
